The Problem
Maintaining a walking routine today is challenging, especially for busy individuals.
From research, the main challenges include:
Unpredictable daily schedules that disrupt fitness consistency.
Lack of walking companions, leading to low personal accountability.
No clear progress benchmarks, making it hard to stay motivated.
Most existing solutions either focus too much on raw data tracking or lack social engagement — making them hard to sustain.

Insights That Shaped The Design
Three behavioral principles guided the key decisions:
Small wins drive consistency more than big goals. A streak badge for 3 days in a row is more motivating than a monthly step total.
Visibility changes behavior. Progress needs to be shown in a way that creates a "pull" to keep going — not just a number to report.
Lightweight social accountability works better than competitive leaderboards. Knowing a friend also walked today is more motivating than seeing you're ranked 47th.
Who This Is For
People who care about their health but want a simpler, more engaging way to maintain a daily walking routine.
They are busy individuals — they want:
Clear motivation to kickstart and maintain their walking habits
Simple, flexible tracking that fits seamlessly into unpredictable daily schedules.
Social connection to share achievements and stay accountable with friends.

Key Insights
Social connection builds accountability
→ Users need a community and shared goals, not just solo tracking
Gamification drives consistency
→ The more rewarding and fun the experience (like leaderboards or achievements), the more likely users stick to it
Flexibility reduces failure
→ Adapting to unpredictable schedules helps users stay on track without feeling discouraged

Color
The color system balances energy and stability
Primary — Purple (#7632E0)
Represents modern energy and positive momentum
Secondary — Yellow (#FCD34D)
Used for rewards and progress highlightsNeutral — Gray/White
Maintains clarity and readability
→ The goal is not to create pressure, but to encourage and reinforce progress

Typography
A combination of Unbounded and Geist:
Unbounded → used for highlights like progress and achievements
Geist → used for body text and long-term readability
→ Balances expressive energy with functional clarity

Iconography
The icon system is divided into two groups:
Functional icons (line / filled)
Clean, minimal, used for navigation and system actions
Gamified icons (reward elements)
Badges, trophies, and achievement visuals
→ only appear during key reward moments
→ Keeps the interface clean while adding motivation through feedback

Outcome & Impact
As a concept project, the design is built around measurable behavioral hypotheses:
Challenge-based actions → higher engagement
Shifting from passive step tracking to active challenges is expected to increase daily interaction and completion ratesVisible streaks → stronger retention
Making progress immediately visible on the home screen encourages users to return and maintain consistencyLightweight social layer → sustained motivation
Small-group activity signals are expected to improve short-term retention compared to solo tracking
What I'd Improve Next
How the product could evolve with real usage
Test challenge vs passive tracking
Compare engagement between action-based challenges and traditional step counting to validate which drives stronger habit loopsRefine long-term motivation
Explore how the experience evolves after 2–3 weeks, when initial excitement fades and habits need deeper reinforcementCustomize"). This removes the friction point I observed at step 3 in walkthroughs.Expand social interaction
Introduce lightweight activity feeds or reminders to strengthen accountability without adding pressure
